Wine Exchange has 2 very interesting new release from Argentina, at great prices (as is usually the case with winex.com).
I just placed my order and am excited for their arrival. You also might want to check out — these wines will probably move pretty quickly.
Clos de los Siete 2006
WA 92 $14.99
Another knockout from Michel Rolland! From the classy packaging to the seamless, supple styylings of the wine, Rolland’s Clos de los Siete is indisputably one of the wine world’s finest values. Put a price tag twice as high on this one and you’d still have takers. Dr. Jay Miller, writing for the Wine Advocate, notes, “The 2006 Clos de los Siete is…50% Malbec, 30% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Syrah. Opaque purple-colored, it has an…expressive nose including fragrant plum, blueberry, and black cherry. Ripe, sweet, and seamless, it admirably hides its tannin under all the fruit. It will evolve for several years but who will have the willpower to defer gratification? It is an awesome value.”
Bodegas Caro 2004
WA 93 $32.99
This wine comes with a pretty serious pedigree — or pedigrees — being a result of another collaboration of the respected Argentine family of Nicolas Catena and Bordeaux heavyweight Lafite Rothschild.
From Wine Advocate: “The 2004 Caro is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Malbec. It was aged for 18 months in French oak, 80% new. Purple-colored, it has a classy perfume of wood smoke, spice box, pencil lead, black currant, and black cherry. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is elegantly styled with a smooth texture and silky tannins. The fruit has excellent depth and concentration. It should evolve for 4-6 years and drink well through 2025.”
